A terrible disaster, a great tragedy occured yesterday. An Israeli helicopter
on a training mission in Romania crashed in a deep ravine in a mountain area, killing six
Israeli and one Romanian Air Force service man. There were bad weather conditions and
and it was impossible to conduct searches at night because of the thick fog surrounding
the crash site. So  far it could not be established what caused the crash, especially as
rescue and search teams could not reach the scene of the accident.

In recent years the Israeli Air Force has had a policy of training as much as possible
overseas because of the limited airspace in Israel. One of the benefits of this, is
the opportunity given to pilots to fly long distances in unfamiliar terrain, thus preparing
them for future long range missions. This has been done in many countries
 around the world.

A new flotilla of two Lebanese ships is said to be leaving for Gaza in the near future.
This is again a provocation, as no humanitarian aid is needed there now. And of
course it may also be carrying weapons or material for making them and can not
be allowed to enter Gaza without  inspection. On Friday the UN made an announcement
which denounced the use of flotillas to break the Israeli blockade and of course
Hamas harshly criticized this statement.

The UN spokesman  Martin Nesirky (for a change) responded that those wishing
to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza should do so by land and not attempt to break
Isreal’s sea blockade. Hamas of course, called these statements tantamount to
 ”collaboration with the Israeli occupier”.

Israeli Commander-in-Chief Ashkenazi, visited Italy and France last week for talks
with defense leaders and talked about other dangers from Lebanon, one being Hizbullah
placing rocket launchers and other weapons in the middle of civilian population -
if they fire from there, we will have no alternative to  shoot back at these areas, he said.
Iran has supplied Hizbullah with more than 40,000 rockets, many of them
long-range, such as Scud and M-600 missiles and these are a real threat.

Today I also want to bring up a subject which actually concerns America and not Israel,
but we have been hearing so much about it lately, I feel I must mention it.
The subject is the mosque which is to be built near Ground Zero, and we are
surprised permission has been given to build it in that specific spot where
thousands of innocent Americans lost their lives through Islamic terrorism.
Who gave permission for this?  I believe the Mayor of New York,
Michael Bloomberg supports it - very strange! To me it seems like “a slap in the face”
for the families of those victims. In Saudi Arabia they don’t even allow
churches or synagogues to be built, they don’t even allow anyone to bring a Bible
into their country. So if in the end it is forbidden to build the
Mosque in that place, the Muslims can’t complain about discrimination.
Shalom from Irene
