Antisemitism, in the guise of anti-Zionism,  has reached new heights this last week, especially in Sweden. One of the largest circulating daily newspapers there, the “Aftonbladet” accused Israeli soldiers of abducting Palestinians to steal their organs.

This is a grotesque throwback to the blood libels of the Middle Ages and has been strongly denied by Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor, who characterized this story as “racist hysteria” at its worst”, adding, “No one should tolerate such a demonizing piece of medieval blood libel that surely encourages hate crimes against Jews. This is a shame to freedom of expression, and all Swedes should reject it unconditionally.

The headlines of the article were, “They plunder the organs of our sons,’ and Palestinians are quoted as saying that Israeli soldiers kidnapped their sons and stole organs. No real enquiry was made into these untrue accusations, it was just “hearsay” from Arab sources, who we know are far from truthful in most of their “news items”

Violent crime has been on the rise here recently, some, but of course not all, due to excessive alcoholic drinking, and only during the last week five seemingly senseless murders in different parts of the country were committed. So far it seems that the police have no clue as to the perpetrators or the reason for this. There is lately even some talk by some, of imposing a death sentece, although I am sure nothing will come of this.

But I don’t want to write about crime and unpleasant subjects today, so I am turning to music, specifically classical music and the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra which was founded in 1936 by Bronoslaw Huberman who wanted to save Jewish European musicians from the holocaust which he evidently forsaw. It was then called the “Palestine Orchestra” and the inaugural concert was conducted by the legendary Arturo Toscanini. Since then the orchestra has performed in many countries all over the world.

Today I’ll begin my blog with a couple of health subjects. First of all the Swine Flue again, which seems to be spreading more quickly than before, and some 2,000 Israelis have been diagnosd with it according to the Health Ministry, but they estimate that the actual number of people infected with the virus in Israel is much higher, due to carriers who have not been tested. They say that vaccine is going to be bought from abroad, but it is feared it will be late in coming. In the meanwhile different precautions are being taken for crowded places, especially schools, as the new school year begins in about three weeks.

Another health “problem” seems to be a children’s cooking program on television, which a large group of pediatricians want removed. They say the things cooked on this program are all unhealthy ones, containing much fat, sugar and chocolate. Children should eat healthy non-fattening foods. So far I have not heard of any response to this complaint from the TV channel.

The US administration seems to be perverting the meaning of “pro-Israel”. Their ultimate loyalty is to left-wing principles including a secular Israel and tolerance of terrorism only when directed at Jews. They are ashamed of an avowadly Jewish State, yet completely comfortable with 22 Muslim ones, and are actively seeking the creation of a 23rd, based in jerusalem, whose governing documents call for the destruction of Israel.

The American administration has also lately compared the European Holocaust a number of times with rab suffering and black slavery, and seems to think that Israel only exists because of the Holocaust. This has also encouraged the Arabs to insist that the Holocaust was the only reason for the establishment of Israel.

This is not true. Jerusalem and the Holy Land (which used to include what is nowadays the country of Jordan, but was given to “King Abdula” by Britain at the time of the British Mandate here) have roots with Judaism for over 2,000 years. The Arabs may in time agree to two states in Palestine, but they say firmly that they will not agree that one of these be a Jewish one.
