Archive for September, 2009
Although many of our armed forces and police were on alert because of possible dangers, the Yom Kippur festival passed peacefully and we can all get back to our usual routine.
Last week Ahmadinejad, the Iranian President gave a speech, a very violent, anti-Semitic and anti-Israel one, full of lies and inaccuracies in the assembly of the United Nations, and some member states left the assembly as a protest, a fact which Israel very much appreciated. The next day, Thursday, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benyamin Natanyahu gave a reply to this.
Last week a report on the Gaza conflict was published by the “Goldstone Commision” of the UN Human Rights Council and as expected, it seems to blame Israel for everything that happened during the war in Gaza. No mention is made of what led up to the necessary fighting, no mention of the continuous rocket firing by Hamas into Israeli civilian centers for many years. The Palestinian terrorists are referred to as “armed groups” and the Palestinian leadership is called “Responsible Palestinian Authorities”.
The fact that those “responsible” Arabs always hid behind women and children, fired from hospitals, schools and other public buildings was completely ignored by the Goldstone Comission, and that therefore when our soldiers were defending themselves, civilians were hurt and killed, this fact was not mentioned. All the blame as usual, was put on Israel.
September! Yes, September often seems to be a month with many disasters and on this last Sunday in September, another tragedy occured here. But before I give details of this, I’ll mention a few others.
Seventy years ago, World War II began in September, in 1972 during the Munich summer Olympics, eleven Israeli athletes were cold-bloodedly murdered by those members of the “religion of peace” Islam’ and surely none of you can forget 11/9 when they blew up the Twin Towers of the World Trade center in New York. Also in September 2005 Israel completed its unilateral disengagement from the Gaza Strip with the disasterous results of Hamas, the terrorist organization, taking over. There are more September tragedies, but I will now only mention Israel’s latest.
Today I want to write some lines about an American Jew, Jonathan Pollard, who was convicted for spying for Israel, received a life sentence and is now serving his 24th year in prison. He explained his deed by saying he believed the information which he gave to Israel, a friendly country, should have been given us by the American authorities, because it concerned the nuclear plant which Iraq (not Iran) was building, and would have been a danger to our existance. Israel subsequently, luckily managed to bomb this atom site, and this danger passed. (Now we have a similar danger from Iran). Jonathan Pollard has expressed remorse for his deed and sincerely apologized for it.
Unfortunately the lawyer defending him at the trial made a great number of mistakes, and Pollard received a much severer sentence than anyone else in the U.S.A. convicted of giving secret information to a friendly country ever got. Usually sentences for this act are around 6 years, more or less, even for people spying for “unfriendly countries.
Today the new school year begins and hopefully all schools will open, because a few days ago we were told on the news that there is a shortage of guards, and teachers refuse to teach, and parents refuse to let their children go to school, if there is no guard at the gate. I think we are the only country in the world who needs watchmen at the school entrances, because unfortunately Islamic terrorists have no qualms about children. Only a few years ago they blew up a school bus.
And now back to Jerusalem. Riots continued even more violently on the last Sabbath because of the open parking lot there. One man even threw himself under a car and was badly injured. There must come an end to this, but who will give in first?
