Monday’s news was mostly about the suicide bombers in the Moscow Metro underground train system, with so many killed and wounded. This may have taken place because Russian police reportedly killed several Islamic “militant” leaders in the North Caucasus recently, but if this had been done by Israel , it would surely have made huge headlines in the world press. I guess this is another example of double standards at work when it comes to Israel and Islamist reportage. And why is the word “militant” always used when applied to Muslim “terrorists“, because that is what they are – “TERRORISTS”! And of course all Al-Quaida-affiliated web sites have been full with congratulationaty comments about this latest mass murder of innocent Russian citizens. They even opened a special page to “receive congratulations” for the Chechen rebels who “started the dark tunnel attacks in the apostate countries”. But again, it’s Israel that has been under fire internationally since last winter’s Gaza war to end years of rocket attacks. Is it some kind of anti-Semitism-induced blindness that prevents  nations from clearly differentiating the good guys from the bad guys? Or is it simply proof that terrorism works?
And now Israel-America relationship is suffering because Netanyahu insisted on Israel’s right to build in Jerusalem. “The connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem cannot be denied,” he said . “The Jewish people were building Jerusalem 3,000 year ago and the Jewish people are building Jerusalem today. Jerusalem is not a settlement. It’s our capital.” And why are we expected to make more concessions to the Arabs?  Our leaving Gaza for them to begin governing themselves was a large step for Israel (and seen in retrospect a dangerous one) and the world doesn’t seem to have noticed this.
I received an article written by my pen-friend Moshe, and feel the need to let others read it too. It is rather too long for my blog, so I’m taking some lines out, but will of course leave the main points in. Shalom from Irene

I was born and raised in Quebec. During the 30’s and 40’s, anti-Semitism was rampant.  The provincial government played a huge part in stroking the flames of hate supported in many ways by Montreal’s mayor, Cammilion Houde, who in turn was interred due to his active opposition to World War Two and his positive attitude towards Nazi Germany.  Perhaps in all fairness to Houde, one can argue that his opposition was directed mainly against England.
As I entered the adult world, what struck me, as far as Jews were concerned, was that there was a difference between the anti-Semitism of the French Canadian and that of home grown English Canadian.  The former, if they didn’t like you would tell you outright while the latter would use niceties while stroking your back with a knife.
The above came to mind while reading the multitude of criticisms and comments about the proposed 1600 units to be built in Jerusalem.  And what may you ask does this have to do with anti-Semitism?  Well, Obama and his administration are using the very same tactics used by traditional anti-Semites in Quebec, the English speaking community.  Obama’s anti-Semitism is of the subliminal kind, the ones you hear but don’t feel immediately.  It’s the ‘some of my best friends are Jews’ or “go back where you came from” group. It is the kind of anti-Semitism recently displayed by the participants of  “Israel is apartheid” week.  Surely, Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister, would have been beside himself with joy in having so many able assistants.
Why is it that Obama has surrounded himself with Israeli and Jew haters?  Why has he chosen his friends from among virulently anti-Israel and anti-Jewish types like Edward Said, Rashid Khalidi, William Ayres, Jeremiah Wright, Samantha Power and Susan Rice — among others — to radically post-Zionists like Arnie Wolf, Rahm Emmanuel and David Axelrod not to mention Joe Biden and Hannah Rosenthal of J Street who is to be the czar of anti-Semitism in his administration?  Is it any wonder that Obama appointed this anti-Israel lobbyist,  which can be seen as totally dangerous to the safety and security of Israel.
Israeli pundit Caroline Glick noted that ever since Barack came into office, every single Middle East policy the Obama administration has announced has been antithetical to Israel’s national security interests. Obama in April 2009 asked Congress to revise American laws preventing financial aid to terrorist organizations so that the United States could keep funding the Palestinian Authority even with Hamas as part of the government.
Then in May 2009 came the revelation that the United States and allied military, under the command of Lt. Keith Dayton, was training 1,500 Palestinian troops.  Would American-trained Palestinian troops one day go into battle against the forces of American ally Israel Obama foreign policy adviser, Samantha Power, who, in a 2002 interview with Harry Kreisler of the Institute for International Studies at Berkeley, called for military action against Israel to secure the creation of a Palestinian state. The anti-Israel statements of Robert Malley, whom Obama tabbed for an important mission right after he was elected President, were even worse than Power’s.

Our Prime Minister Natanyahu is now visiting the United states.  He is especially explaining that the city of Jerusalem is not a settlement, but the eternal Capital of Israel and building there for the residents must go on.Yesterday he held talks with Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, today he will meet with President Obama, and I sure hope he will be able to explain our position and that American-Israeli relationship will return to its former warm state,
A couple of weeks ago, parts of the world “celebrated” Apartheid Week which especially took place in university campuses, and of course Israel was the main subject for that. The use of the word Apartheid has become commonplace and is constantly linked to Israel, and it is said that Israel is a state where political and civil rights are withheld on the basis of race and race alone. But this is of course not so. In South Africa, the minority white population harshly ruled the majority black population. Nonwhites were denied civil rights, and in 1958, they were even deprived of citizenship. But the Israel of today and the South Africa of yesterday have nothing in common.
Israeli Arabs, about one-fifth of the country, have the same civil and political rights as do Israeli Jews.
Arabs sit in the Knesset and serve in the military, although most are exempt from the draft. Arabs enjoy equal citizenship with Israelis, crowd our shopping malls, beaches, and parks, side by side with Israeli Jews. Let’s see some pictures of Jews shopping and vacationing side by side with Muslims in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Iran. etc. What a sick joke. It’s like Holocaust denial or blood libels.
This can not be  be apartheid! It can only be anti-Semitism which is so much on the rise these days.So why is the State of Israel the constant scapegoat?
I received an excellent article, concerning the rededication of the Hurva Synagogue,  from the writer Naomi Ragen and think it should be read by as many people as possible. (I myself can’t explain things so well). So with Noami’s permission I am sending it to you too. And one more comment from me “Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Muslim Holy book, the Koran.”  Shalom from Irene
Subject: Who’s destroying, and who’s rebuilding?
 Dear Friends,
The rebuilding and rededication of the Hurva (‘ruined’) Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem few days ago was a moment of true joy for every Israeli, and every Jew.
Some background. Construction of the synagogue began under Rabbi Judah the Hassid in 1700.
The rabbi was a member of one of the first groups of Ashkenazi Jews to immigrate to Jerusalem, a few hundred from Poland. It was  thought that a synagogue had existed on the spot since the Second Century B.C.E. The Hurva Synagogue was rebuilt under Ibrahim Pasha in 1836 and finally completed in 1856. Designed in a grand Neo-Byzantine style, it was one of the largest buildings in the Old City.  In 1948, members of the Jordanian Arab Legion, led by the same regime which outlawed Jewish access to all Jewish holy places in Jerusalem and Hebron, including the Western Wall and the Tomb of the Patriarchs, blew up the beautiful synagogue (to see photos go to:
http://  )
Jordanians also used the Jewish headstones from the Mount of Olives Cemetery to pave roads. ltogether, the Arab Legion destroyed 29 synagogues during the War of Independence. When Arabs were in charge of Jewish holy sites, they destroyed them.  Now, not only are the Palestinians guilty of having blown up this synagogue, but have the unmitigated gall to protest its rebuilding! The Gaza-based head of al-Quds International Institution
warned against the reopening of the Hurva synagogue as part of an Israeli plan to erect a Jewish temple on al-Aqsa ruins(!!!)And Hilary Clinton wants Israel to prove its dedication to peace?!!!
In the meantime, anti-Semitic nut job websites, like VNN and Goyfire (“Hammering out the Jew one Broadcast at a time”)wrote that:  “Israeli officials have reportedly called on Israelis to march into the
al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday, highly revered as the third holiest site in the Muslim world.”  Funny, no one told me.
The current American Administration, by siding with Israel’s enemies, have emboldened them and every other
anti-Semite in the world to spread this preposterous  poison.  Thanks Barack, Hilary. They couldn’t do it without you!  And if you think we are going to let these bloody terrorists take over an inch of Jerusalem, you are deluded, no matter how much pressure you exert. We will wait until the good folks in America come to their senses and vote you into oblivion.  Maybe then the Saudis can offer you a job?  After all that scraping and bowing to them, it’s the least they can do, no?
