In light of the recent terrorist event in Chattanooga, will the Beach City Council now withdraw its approval of a mosque in our midst?

Probably not, but we really must consider removing the Confederate monument at Princess Anne.

Council continues to be of the belief that there are such things as "moderate" mohammedans, the result being that citizens of Virginia Beach will continue to be sold down the river in the name of political correctness.

I am disgusted and frustrated. One crazed white person, who just happened to have had his picture made with a Confederate battle flag, goes on a shooting spree and his action is cause enough to call for the destruction of Southern heritage.

Yet, a crazed mohammedan goes and kills several of America's finest and everyone wants to know his motive instead of addressing the threat.

It may just be me, but: [Click Read More below to read rest of the letter]

Because of the dark cloud hanging over city council on May 5, 2015, I asked city council to put a referendum for an up and down vote on light rail.

The last reports that have come in have not supported the need for a light rail system in Virginia Beach, and they have said that this is not a good deal for Virginia Beach.

In Sunday's  Beacon, our city treasurer, individually, had an ad supporting a "No" vote for light rail.  After reading this, you can see that it is reiterating what I have been saying over the last few years.

Dear Editor:

rebelflagThis past Friday I watched CNN interview an individual (a black woman) who claimed the flying of the Confederate Battle Flag on the grounds of the South Carolina Capitol was a contributor to the awful shooting at the A.M.E. Church in Charleston. I and several others in the room at the time looked at each other in amazement.

Since then, pressure has been applied continuously on the Sovereign State of South Carolina to remove the flag, with both Governor Haley and Senator (Mama's Boy) Graham jumping on the band wagon.

Yet again, the radical liberal left seem not to have gotten the message. I seriously doubt that awful shooting was prompted by the display of a flag. Rather, it was one person's perception of the black community. In fact, the shooter stated as much.

To the Editor:

This email is to strenuously object to your article by Mike Thompson who erroneously states that nuclear power is "safe." Haven't you heard of what's happening in Japan at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant? The Germans have. Last I heard, they have shut down their nuclear power plants as a result.

Shame on you for deceiving the public into thinking that nuclear power is "safe" when nothing is further from the truth. The Pacific ecosystem of the Western USA is now collapsing due to the tons of radioactive water surging daily into the Pacific Ocean as a result of the ongoing tragedy in Fukushima. [Click 'Read More' below for rest of the letter]

Do we have an immigration problem?

Immigrants come here legally.   They come here to benefit from the advantages of living in a nation of freedom and opportunity. They are eager to learn the language and American customs and become productive American citizens.

The problem we do have is an invasion.   True, the invaders aren’t coming here militarily.   If they were they would be summarily repelled.  But rather, they are allowed to walk in with impunity.

Sure, there are some who come here simply to take jobs to provide for their families which is the result of the poor conditions in their homeland’s socialized economies.  So we socialize our country’s economy  by sending foreign aid to shore up their homeland’s failing socialized economies. We have to borrow the money to do so instead of having them do so.
