The day the television went black. It was 24 hours after the CO massacre. You couldn’t go to any channel without getting breathless reports of some insignificant fact about the shooter.
“NBC has just confirmed that alleged shooter John Eagan Holmes uses Colgate toothpaste,” Samatha Gutherie pants into the camera.
Wolf Blitzer, in an effort to counter NBC’s ‘exclusive,’ gasps, “CNN can now confirm that the shooter prefers Charmin toilet paper. This came from a jailhouse source standing suicide watch.” ABC breaks into programming with a special bulletin: “ABC has just learned that shooter John Holmes may be suicidal and under a suicide watch.” On an on ad nauseam.
These life experience-deprived national media boys and girls go through a predictable cycle:
1). Report the incident.
2). See if they can blame police or EMT personnel
3). Try to find witnesses and victims
4). Background check and show pictures of shooter’s home (like I really care?)
5). Get every possible baby picture of everyone involved and show it when “he was 3 years old”
6). Try to find out if he was a member of a radical conservative Tea Party group, a Christian radical, a Mormon, politically connected to Romney (no one associated with Obama would ever do something like this). Just being a whack job isn’t an reportable event.
7). (a) Was he a gun nut? (b). Were his guns legal?
8). If 7). (a) is yes was he a member of the board or officer of the National Rifle Association? If (b) is yes how could he acquire them? Isn’t that illegal?
9). Did anyone ask if they were among of those guns U.S. Atty. Gen. Eric Holder’s Justice Department gunrunning thugs Illegally provided to Mexican crime syndicates ?
THEN: After a days of exhausting these avenues, the national media turns to pumping up the National Grief, showing ever lighted candle from San Diego to Bangor, Maine. Interviewing every emotional whack job in the U.S. and Canada they can get to tear up and say something about banning guns and supporting the rights of Hollywood’s weird movie makers.
The contribution of Hollywood is protected free speech under Amendment 1, but Amendment 2 is what they attack to try to turn the focus on a gun that can’t do harm except the hands of the whacked, inexperienced, or irresponsible. 2nd Amendment doesn’t count.
Everybody knows Batman killed The Joker - end of story. I read that in a comic book in the 1940’s just before I went out on the farm and killed 50 chickens for mom and dad.
So anyway the TVs are off and will stay off until these bleeding heart liberal talking heads start talking about the crimes of the president, his secrecy about his personal past that they’d never allow a Republican to get away with, the crimes of his underlings, including Eric Holder; the attempt by the UN to take about the 1st and 2nd Amendment rights of Americans.
No these issues take more brain power than doing a murder story.
