Sen. Wagner

A roughshod, rogue attempt by a state senator and his handpicked leadership cabal of Virignia Beach GOP party ‘power establishment’ to hijack control of the local Republican party for the benefit of a few at the expense of the rank-and-file was thwarted Friday by the party credential committee.

Ken Longo

As recently as last Monday, the elite group of power grabbers rigged the Virginia Beach central committee meeting keeping control and stripping almost 700 members of their vote at Saturday’s 2nd District meeting in Hampton.  Beach city chairman Ken Longo opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. and attempted to adjourn it immediately to keep party dissidents from acting against them

The dissidents, however were not deterred, and took their case of disenfranchisement to the credentials committee of the 2nd District seeking re-instatement as delegates Saturday and won.  All 1,000 delegates were re-instated

The self-destructive maneuver began when Sen. Frank Wagner and his greedy, power-hungry, cabal of local leaders, at a mass meeting, were able to gain control by ‘slating’ only 32 voting delegates to represent the 1,000 or so attending.  All others were tossed out.

Wagner rogue group were aided and abetted by the typical political hangers-on the old gray-haired establishment who contribute dues and eat donuts at the regular Republican breakfasts.

Other than the 32 ’Specially-selected’ representatives, the votes of the other almost 1,000 were disregarded, although Wagner was able to claim capture of 400 - from attendees, some so senile, they didn’t know what was going on.

That was all overthrown Friday by the 2nd District credentials committee.

A large raucous turnout is expected Saturday at the 2nd District meeting in Hampton.
