Dunn's - On VA Rt. 40

Traveling the back roads recently of Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee I was drawn to reflect on the good ole days and the heyday of the community country store.

They were to the Middle Atlantic state what Juke Joints were to the Deep South and the Mississippi Delta.

Juke joints were known for good blues music, fried fish, hush puppies, dancing and gambling.

Community stores in the Bible Belt were a place for the old farmers and good ole boys to meet, have a moon pie, a cold RC cola or Big Orange, or a big soda cracker with a thick slice of bologna or cheese.

Both Juke Joints and country stores are fading fast.  See Notes from the Editor's Desk.
