Phoenix Plans Light Rail System. Early this year, the citizens of Phoenix voted in favor of a sales tax, the funds from which will be used for development of a light rail system and a major increase in bus and paratransit services. As part of this project, the Transit Public Safety Department is to receive eleven full-time police officers, six vehicles, support equipment, and new Class A and B uniforms. Title 40 of the Arizona Revised Statutes also provides for creation of private rail police and extends authority into any jurisdiction in which the system operates.

First of all, we don't have a problem now with crime via buses. Why would light rail be markedly different? How many people would commit a crime and use a train as a getaway car?

Under Norfolk's Starter Line plan, HRT security will be on trains.

Currently on buses a driver can summon police just by pressing on a touchpad. I would expect LRT to be the same.

It takes common sense and an awareness to surroundings. As Virginia Beach moves from a bedroom community to truly an urban society, people, especially teenagers will have gain "street wisdom"

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore County police continued their search Tuesday for two men who kidnapped two teens from a light rail station, sexually assaulted one of them and dumped them in Baltimore city.
