"Real" Virginians

As a transplant from the North, I sometimes become quickly identified when my New Yorker twang with the duhs and the dats and the tiods and the dowgs slip through. Yes, the south Bronx, still in me, has been a source of barbs and ridicule and always made feel like an outsider never to be accepted as a Virginian.
Follow up:

So how long does it take to become recognized as a "Real" Virginian? A primary Democratic contender, Terry McAuliffe, has taken some heat because he is an "outsider". Well, going down a list of politicos, quite interesting enough they like McAuliffe and I weren't born here either. Let's see:
George Allen - Whittier, California.
Charles Robb - Phoenix, Arizona
Jim Webb Saint - Joseph, Missouri
Mark R. Warner - Indianapolis, Indiana
Tim Kaine - Saint Paul, Minnesota
Bill Bolling - Sistersville, West Virginia
John Henry Hager - Durham, North Carolina
Robert McDonnell - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Ken Cuccinelli - Edison, New Jersey
Brian J. Moran - Natick, Massachusetts
Thelma D. Drake - Elyria, Ohio
Ed Schrock - Middletown, Ohio
Then of course there are:
Jim Gilmore and Creigh Deeds both born in Richmond, Virginia. All things being equal, since both of these gentlemen failed to prevail over a non-native Virginian maybe it doesn't make a difference where you come from or how long you have been here. We are all Virginians. Stick to the issues, and forget longevity.
