Virginia Beach Councilman Villanueva – Who Really is John Galt?

Recently, an Ayn Rand worshiper penned a Letter to the Editor under the John Galt pseudonym. The whole purpose of the letter was to disrespectfully malign Virginia Beach City Councilman Ron Villanueva.
Follow up:
Unfortunately, this individual evidently does not believe in the principles of a democratic republic. When calling someone a “dumb ass” that has been selected to hold office, not once, but twice, he is in effect ridiculing those who cast their vote and elected Villanueva to office.
The fictitious Galt, secretly led captains of industry to create their own society; one of a secret enclave of individualists living secluded in the high Colorado wilderness. These individualists respected no one’s opinion other than their own.
A personal attack on an individual’s character rather than their differences of opinion is synonymous with Brutus’s attack on Julius Caesar. Figuratively, it is an assassination.
Could it be our pseudonym Galt also has a hidden agenda? He ostracizes the Republican Party candidates for the Commonwealth legislature and goes as far as labeling them as liberal democrats. Yet, he only points to fiscal issues, and local municipal issues at that. There are many permutations in mediating a community budget, which are far different than the complexity of issues in Richmond.
No, I believe that our Mr. Galt is a red herring meant to sway your opinion to continue with the current 21st district representation. Make no mistake; Delegate “Bob” Mathieson is a gentleman, congenial, and popular. However, his performance in Richmond has been lack luster and he deserves to be challenged. Villanueva will bring to the forefront those issues that affect those in the district. Whether or not Villanueva’s performance on City Council is germane it will become evident during the campaign.
On the other hand, our Mr. Galt might just be a frustrated individual and looking for that elusive candidate that can only pass his litmus test. He points to Councilman Bill DeSteph as his example of perfection. Yet, woe to DeSteph if he departs on any aspect of Mr. Galt’s mandate; then he too will be called a “dumb ass”.

Ya know, I'm not sure who John Galt is, but I have a definite suspicion. Who is John Galt?
Is this the same John Galt that not only supports Republican Bill Desteph but also supported Republicans Thelma Drake,Bill Bolling, John Moss, Del. Purkey, and former Delegate Leo Wardrup? Is this the same guy that brought people with him to Republican John Cuccinelli's fund raiser? Didn't this John Galt guy favor REPUBLICAN Gilmore over DEMOCRAT Warner unlike many prominent REPUBLICANS that endorsed DEMOCRAT WARNER(Will Sessoms & Paul Lanteigne)?
You're right. Sometimes Galt gets a little colorful. However, being consistent and saying that past performace should bring questions about Villanueva's future actions is indeed logical. Fiscal issues is indeed germane to our current economic misfortunes. You want big spending to be transferred from the local level to state level, then vote for Villaneuva. Not that they need help spending or rubber stamping on the state level.
While not the worst on council, Ron V. is hardly a champion of fiscal conservatism. His local performance does indicate a possible future behavior in a realm that is as you acknowledge is complex and on a different scale.
Lastly, given Councilman Bill DeSteph's performance as a true conservative on council, it only adds credibility to this John Galt guy's judgement! And what about your past commentary and political cartoons?
Wally, I don't hold your differing opinion against you. I have a great deal of respect for you. Unlike Galt, I haven't yet made up my mind. I'm sure John Galt and I will forgive you and help you out when you decide to run for office again.
Best of regards,
Britt
