Republican blog features Liberal Democrat for transportation solutions
The fox is in the hen house
Follow up:
Michael Barrett, CEO of Runnymede Corporation, has been selected to guide the “non-partisan” discussion on transportation solutions for Hampton Roads.
The blog site, Bearing Drift, touts itself as a right leaning Republican political website with prominent endorsements.
"Bearing Drift has become an indispensable source in the campaign, providing not only pointed conservative-oriented analysis but extended podcast interviews analyzing the directions in which the campaigns are headed. It is prime examples of how the Republicans can counter the wide advantage Democrats have had in the new media." - Dr. Bob Holsworth
It is a wonder then, why would the website’s editors invite Barrett to lead the discussion? Are they unaware of Barrett’s true agenda?
Barrett serves under Andrew Fine, President of Runnymede, who also has a history of supporting liberal Democrats [1].
Barrett’s transportation motivation is two-fold. First, increase traffic volume and traffic arteries to enhance urbanized development.
Second, and more importantly, Barrett’s concerted effort to create transit-oriented development to neutralize Republican strongholds.
It is no secret that the efforts of transit-orientated development have resulted in urban flight and gentrification. The most recent political shift was in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina.
It will be interesting to see how the discussion evolves. Will the young Turks of the Republican party will fall prey to transportation volume and transit-oriented development articulated by the convincing Barrett?
