Virginia Beach At-Large Race
An election or a reality show?
Whether you love them or hate them, you can't help but agree that reality shows have completely changed the contemporary American scene. It now appears that the November 2, Virginia Beach at-large race with its complex variations of alliances pales those ever contrived on “Big Brother” or “Survivor”
Follow up:
First is John Moss, a previously two-term city councilman and Republican city committee member who professes to throw all incumbents out, except Bill DeSteph.
Moss has hitched his cart to DeSteph even though the current councilman approved spending 40 million dollars on an overpriced right-of-way for light rail. Moss refuses to commit himself to a position on light rail citing an impending study and the result of an advisory referendum; as of yet he has not publicly commented on the right-of-way purchase of his ally.
DeSteph, also an active Republican and city committee member, has yet to bless this alliance with Moss. On the contrary, he feels obligated to Rita “Sweet” Bellito for supporting and seconding him on several council issues. Bellito is a fellow Republican and Scott Rigell supporter. Moss, on the other hand, frequently sports a Kenny Golden sticker. In the previous year’s election, Moss as Virginia Beach Taxpayer Alliance chairman, temporarily chucked his Republican hat and endorsed Democrats Bobby Matheson and John Bell, in lieu of Republicans Ron Villanueva and Ken Stolle.
One would assume Bellitto would reciprocate DeSteph’s alliance anonymity. Moreover, the Second District Republican Chairman, Gary Byler, is a contributor and avid Bellitto supporter. Bellito attended candidate training under a Jennifer Byler Memorial grant.
Understanding the possible flashback from loyal Republicans and Villanueva Fillipo shot-gun electing loyalists, DeSteph is wise to keep a zipped-lip on Moss’s alliance claims.
Candidates Andrew Jackson and James D. Cabiness although differing on several issues, have gravitated to mutual identification and understanding.

That leaves Dave Redmond and I. Unfortunately, we are both on the opposite ends of the issues spectrum. The only thing we have in common is height. Perhaps we can form a vertically challenged alliance.
